Best Tips To Choosing The Right Toothpaste

In most whitening toothpastes, the common ingredient is peroxide. Peroxide acts as a bleaching agent, and can remove deep stains from the teeth. Another thing that a lot of whitening toothpastes have in common is an abrasive action. This is the gritty feeling that the toothpaste has. The small abrasives scrub the teeth to remove surface stains.

The first thing you need to remember is that there is rarely much of a difference between the name brand toothpastes and generic or store brands. Choosing the right toothpaste should rely completely on cost, fancy advertising, or finding brands that you're familiar with just because of their commercials on television. Most have exactly the same ingredients, so the packaging shouldn't sway you too much.

The real trick to choosing the right toothpaste to stop bad breath is what products you should avoid having in your toothpaste, not what product you want in there. What that means is that many people choose toothpastes that have baking soda as an ingredient, thinking that this will address bad breath. However, baking soda is a drying agent and usually dries out the mouth and can also wear away at the enamel of the teeth. When looking for the right toothpaste to stop bad breath you want to avoid those that have baking soda or peroxide, as these are the ones that will probably make the problem worse, not better.

After undergoing laser whitening, use toothpaste with a bleaching agent to maintain teeth whiteness. Over time however, stains are inevitable as various food and drink will leave stains eventually. Some types of drinks such as coffee and tea have a much stronger staining effect. Smoking too, stains teeth easily. Moderating intake of such food and drink helps reduce and delay teeth discoloration.

Skip the complicated trays and a whitening gel until you develop a routine. Simple toothpaste that contains a whitening agent is a great way to lighten them by one or two shades. You can always try other methods later once you have a healthy mouth.

Teeth whitening products are out there and unless you have been living without a television for the past decade, you have seen the ads. Not all of them will work for you and some are dangerous. Never use concentrated, undiluted bleach in your mouth.

If you smoke or drink tea or coffee, a whitening toothpaste may help with stains. However, whitening toothpastes only remove adherent stain. The ingredients necessary to actually bleach your teeth are not chemically stable enough to be included in toothpaste. Use caution with those toothpastes made to remove heavy stains, frequently referred to as "smoker's toothpaste" or "tooth polish". These toothpastes may be excessively abrasive and may cause progressive wearing away of the tooth and supporting tissues.

You should also take the advice of your dentist as to which toothpaste will be good for you. Sometimes dentists recommend particular toothpastes depending on the teeth and requirements of the dentist. Toothpastes with fluoride, baking soda or peroxide are usually good bets.
